Luis Jarbe Grabs Top Melges 32 BVI Honors As Regatta Wraps Up At Nanny Cay

TORTOLA - The high winds that ruled the opening day of the 44th annual BVI Spring Regatta on Friday died down over the weekend, leading to more strategic racing.

But the excitement remained as the event came to a close on Sunday at Nanny Cay on Tortola.

Also, Luis Juarbe's Soca, won four of its last five races to win the Melges 32 class with 18 points and for at least one year, stave off the domination of the class by Puerto Rican vessels. Jaime Torres' Smile and Wave (22 points) and Lazy Dog (36 points), both of Puerto Rico, finished second and third, respectively.

Next on the regatta calendar is the Puerto Rico Heineken International Regatta, taking place from May 22 to 25.

The St. Croix International Regatta is scheduled for Nov. 13-15.BVI Spring Regatta.
