Competitor Announcement No. 1: Melges 32 Gold Cup

13 January 2016

With the Melges 32 Gold Cup/Blue Water Series Event #2 just over a month away, it is important to begin planning on another great weekend of racing in Ft. Lauderdale.

Training Days – As stated in the Blue Water Series NOR, the Gold Cup allows for 2 Sanctioned Training Days. Calibration of instruments, sail checks, etc. can be completed outside of this period, however, the boats may not be sailed with more than 4 crew members on the race team within a 25 mile radius of the racing area prior to February 10th.

Junior Sailing Day – All Melges 32 teams will be paired with a Lauderdale Yacht Club Jr sailor on Saturday. The Jr sailor will be an accomplished LYC sailor and similar in weight. This has been a longstanding tradition at the Gold Cup at LYC and provides a great experience for Jr sailors.

Weigh-In – Teams who competed at the December event do not need to weigh for the remainder of the Blue Water Series, unless 3 or more team members have been replaced in which case the entire team will need to re-weigh.

For teams competing for the first time, weigh-in will take place on Wednesday morning, February 10th from 9-11am at the Bahia Mar Marina.

Sail Declarations – Sail decs will be completed on-line on yachtscoring.com in the “Owner’s Corner” of the main menu. Once we migrate to sail decs online at Yachtscoring, this process will be easier and streamlined going forward.

Crew Declarations – Similar to the sail decs, Crew Declarations will only be completed on Yachtscoring found in the Owners Corner of the Main Menu. PLEASE use accurate email addresses for all crew members so all event communication can go to every team member. These will be due by Jan 29, 2016.

Bahia Mar Logistics - Contact Megan Legasse with arrival date of boat and trailer. Parking lot fees do apply per day per axle. The dock where the Melges 32 will be moored has 50 AMP power. Please be prepared with any converters or splitters.

Be sure to contact Megan and make your slip reservations if you have not already.

Crane - The crane will be arriving to the Bahia Mar on Sunday afternoon, February 7th, and available all day Monday and Tuesday. This will be enough time to accommodate all the teams, however, your flexibility is appreciated.

The fee for the crane will be $550 USD roundtrip paid to the Melges 32 Class Association. All liabilities will be on the owner and owner’s representatives.

The crane will be available on Sunday, February 14th immediately after racing and throughout Monday.

Class Dues – Class dues must be paid for the calendar year 2016. As the primary source of revenue for the class, dues are critical to the functionality of the Melges 32 Class. Your support is greatly appreciated.
