2007 Melges 32 U.S. Nationals NOR and Online Registration Now Available

4 June 2007

More than twenty Melges 32s are expected for the U.S. National Championship coming this July 13-15. Hosted in conjunction with the famous Newport Regatta out of Sail Newport this event will be second-to-none! If you think it was awesome last year, we'll just you wait. Twenty plus will break the Key West Race Week attendance barrier!

The 2007 Newport Regatta will mark the 23nd consecutive sailing of the event, feature over 20 One-Design classes from all across North America, and will include several competitors from overseas. The 2006 regatta drew more than 250 boats and nearly 1,000 competitors from 18 states and 5 countries.

Sail Newport’s Executive Director Brad Read says “Three days of spectacular racing on Narragansett Bay, premiere socials and the backdrop of Newport's seaside village of restaurants, pubs, marinas and attractions are all reasons why the Newport Regatta has become an annual tradition for sailors.”

The 2006 Nationals in Newport was well received and the red carpet was rolled out for these young, supersonic sportboats. With arms outstretched, they were welcomed to the field and soon became the talk of the regatta. This year will be no exception. Making headlines will be the likes of Claudio Recchi, Simon Williams, Kip Meadows, Marty Kullman and Mike Carroll, Jeff Ecklund, Walter Kennedy, Doug Croker and Rick Orchard, just to name a few will all be in attendance.

The NOR (Notice Of Race) is now available for the 23rd Annual Newport Regatta. Also, Online Registration is open on line at www.sailnewport.org.
