Woods and Ecklund Duke It Out At The Chicago NOOD

19 June 2007

Needless to say the 2007 Sperry Top-sider Melges 32 Chicago NOOD Regatta brought out the competitive side of six participating Melges 32s. Class veteran and reigning Melges 32 National Champion Jeff Ecklund on 'STAR' and Joe Woods from the UK played a nice game of trading spaces from start to finish.

With a total of four races completed, Ecklund and Woods battled it out. Ecklund with his 2-1-2-1 finish and Woods with his 1-2-1-2 equalled six points a piece but Ecklund won the tie and took the overall win. Further back in third was Tom Neills/Mrs. Neills Racing Teams infamous 'Nitemare' Melges 32, Edward Tillinghast on 'Dark n' Stormy' was fourth and Jeff Wittenberg and Mark Landwer on 'Black Ice' was fifth. Robert Hesse on 'Lake Effect' rounded out the field of tough competitors.

Next up on the calendar for the Melges 32 is the 2007 U.S. National Championship being held July 13-15 in Newport, Rhode Island. Newport was the scenic backdrop for the '06 Championship and it was nothing short of spectacular. The conditions were simply amazing — the wind was up, the sea was challenging and the racing supreme! 2007 will live up to expectation and beyond as more than twenty Melges 32s will be on the line!
