The Melges 32 Goes West Coast 2007 Rolex Big Boat Series, September 13-16

The 2007 Big Boat Series Regatta sponsored by Rolex kicks off today in one of the most incredible sailing venues in the world — San Francisco, California hosted by the legendary St. Francis Yacht Club. This prestigious event experiences a first this year, a Melges 32 fleet seven boats strong.

Among the competitors are Edward Tillinghast on 'Dark N'Stormy' from New York, New York; Tad Fairbanks on 'Fast Forward' from Bainbridge, Washington; and from Santa Cruz, California Philippe Kahn will compete in the class for the first time on 'Pegasus 32'. Other popular Californians giving it a go is Caleb Everett on 'Stewball' and Stephen Pugh on 'Taboo' both from the bay area. Adding some international flair is Australian Richard Leslie who currently lives in San Francisco on 'Southern Cross' and Englishman Joe Woods on 'Red' all the way from Torquay, UK.

The event officially commenced today and continues through until Sunday, September 16. Four days of fantastic racing is on tap with great cocktail parties and dinners scheduled each evening following the on-the-water showdowns.
