Kahn Takes The Lead At 2007 RBBS

15 September 2007

Melges 32 fleet newcomer Philippe Kahn aboard Pegasus 32 took the lead on day two with an astounding 1-1 finish to take the M32 division lead of the 2007 Rolex Big Boat Series in San Francisco, California, hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club. Joe Woods from Torquay, UK on Red dropped to second and Richard Leslie on Southern Cross fell to third.

Weather conditions were mild, but the competition was anything but easygoing. As the day progressed the wind kicked up to a sustained 15 knots enabling two great races. A plethera of onlookers lined the sea wall of the St. Francis Yacht Club as the boats short-tacked upwind along the shore.

Kahn's impressive performance landed him two bullets for the day and an undeniable first place overall position. Woods appeared to struggle as he could do no better than finishing third in both races placing him three points behind Kahn. One point further back is Leslie who was hot on Kahn's heels in race one of the day finishing second, however a disasterous fifth in race two pushed him back to settle for third overall.

In race two local bay sailor Caleb Everett on Stewball showed great improvement rebounding from a fourth place finish in the first race to come in second to Kahn in race two of the day. This secured his fourth overall position, followed by Stephen Pugh on Taboo in fifth.

3.) Richard Leslie, Southern Cross = 11

4.) Caleb Everett, Stewball = 13
5.) Stephen Pugh, Taboo = 20
