Early Entry Deadline, 31 October; Melges 32 Winter Tune-Up 2007

26 October 2007

The Melges 32 Winter Tune-up Regatta 2007 will be a very unique event — an exclusive that sets the International Melges 32 Class Association and its members far apart from the rest! Hosted by the prestigious Lauderdale Yacht Club in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on 30 November - 2 December, this three day event will give every team their fill of valuable on-the-water coaching and discussions in a private and relaxed atmosphere.

BIG BANG FOR THE BUCK!
Ten races are scheduled for the event — four on Friday, four on Saturday and two final heats on Sunday. This is a fully dedicated Melges 32 race course only. The early entry deadline for the event is Wednesday, 31 October, so now is the time to make sure you are on the starting line! DOWNLOAD A NOR and get your entry in as soon as possible. Beyond the 31 October, the entry fee increases by $100.

The success of the 2006 Winter Tune-up Regatta expands two-fold in 2007. Reviews and positive feedback acquired at an event like this makes it a desirable venue, especially for those ready for top-notch competition at ACURA Key West Race Week 2008, January 21-25 in Key West, Florida; Sperry Top-sider St. Petersburg NOOD, February 15-17; and in March the high-octane ACURA Miami Grand Prix on March 6-9.

Making the Winter Tune-up a first-class event is the presence of an appointed fleet coach — the very accomplished and talented Morgan Reeser presented by Henri Lloyd. Adding to Morgan's professional and straight-forward attitude are his own multiple Olympic medal achievements which includes being the named British Olympic Coach for '08 in Beijing. In the Melges league, he is the only three-time U.S. Melges 24 National Champion helmsman. Morgan will debrief the teams with post-racing video presentations adding coaching commentary about boat handling, spinnaker sets, gybes and take downs along with question and answer sessions during dinner at LYC on both Friday and Saturday night.

Another first in 2006 was the opportunistic 'Take A Junior Sailing Day.' The Melges 32 fleet understands that the future of the sport of sailing is in the vital hands of today's aspiring youth sailors. Having them intimately involved early on will build support as well as ensure its strength and longevity. Local South Florida junior sailors (both high school and ocean experienced Opti sailors) will be assigned to boats to race Saturday and Sunday as weather and sea state permits. Some of the potential Fort Lauderdale talent includes 2005 Melges 24 World Champion crew member Mac Agnese; 2007 U.S. National Girls Opti Champion Erica Reineke; 2007 Laser Radial North American Champion Colin Smith and Sarah Lihan, 2006 Leiter Cup Junior Women's Laser Champion. What other class offers such imaginable opportunities to sail with the very best sailors in the world? There is only one — the Melges 32!
