Melges 32 Takes On The Primo Cup In Monaco This Weekend

A European Melges 32 fleet eight-strong will race at the prestigious Primo Cup, 8-10 February 2008 on the beautiful waters of Monaco. Over the course of the two-weekend event, more than 250 boats total are expected, and among them are some of the world's best sailing the Melges 32.

Hosted by the highly distinguished Yacht Club de Monaco, the Primo Cup officially declares the 2008 racing season open in Europe. "The Primo Cup is a wonderful platform to promote the race! It is true that we are fortunate to enjoy mild conditions in the heart of winter." said Bernard d'Alessandri, Secretary General of the Yacht Club de Monaco.

This is also the first big 2008 regatta for the International Melges 32 Class taking place in Europe and proudly welcomes the likes of Giovanni Maspero on Joe Fly with tactician Andrea Felci; Guido Miani aboard Action Team with Alberto Bolzan as tactician; Nicola Celon will pair up once again with Lanfranco Cirillo calling tactics on Fantastica; and brand new owner Fausto Rubbini (ITA-170) will have the brilliant tactics of Lorenzo Bressani working hard to win. In addition, Massimo e Stefano Leporati and Francesco Bruni (tactician) on Kismet, Savino Formentini (ITA-176) and Flavio Grassi (tactician), Ferdinando Battistella (ITA-177) and Andrea Rachelli (tactician) will also be in attendance. Making the field of competitors highly diversified is Joe Woods and his Red team from Great Britain. They are fresh in from ACURA Key West 2008 (finished 3rd overall), looking to win some majors this year!
