Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series: Speed, Entertainment and Matrix Takes All

10 May 2008

Malcesine, 2008 May 9 - Finally, the moment arrived as all those who wanted to see the action and performance that the Melges 32 was capable of was delivered — delivered by Malcesine. The results are spectacular — with the conclusion of the Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series and three completed races — three different winners of the day.

As predicted, there was no absolute ruler given the great technical rate and balance on the water that produced close racing and constant changing leaderboard positions all fueled by ideal breeze that guaranteed a stunning performance for spectators.

Matrix left it's 'signature' today winning the inaugural test, special thanks to some good choices by Matteo Ivaldi alongside of owner/helm Luigi Amedeo Melegari. As the resident Mumm 30 World Champion, Matrix left behind the brothers Massimo and Stefano Leporati on Kismet with Francesco Bruni in the cockpit as well as Armando Guilietti on Hiroshi with legendary Ben Ainsle calling tactics.

In the second race, Lorenzo Santini's Uka Uka Racing with Claudio Recchi at the helm with Gabriele Benussi calling tactics placed first, and Lanfranco Cirillo's Fantastica with Nicola Celon at his side left Matrix behind for a nice finish.

The last and final race of the day was perhaps the most exciting with the breeze building to over 15 knots. Lorenzo Bressani on Thule calling tactics for Fausto Rubini. Finishing respectively was Germany's Michael Illbruck with former Team New Zealand tactician Adam Beashel on Pinta, then Fantastica.
