Melegari Maintains The Top Spot

10 May 2008

The second day of racing at the Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series, being carried out at Fraglia Vela Malcesine, saw two races in which there was no lack in exciting competition.

Matrix maintained the lead after an early, brief delay in racing but found victory inthe second race which ultimately secured his lead.

The team of Luigi Amedeo Melegari, with Matteo Ivaldi calling tactics has a substantial lead over the rest of the fleet — above the Kismet brothers Massimo and Stefano Leporati (Francesco Bruni to tactics) with a bullet and a third, He seemed to be Melegari's biggest competition.

A tough break was in store for one of the leading teams Lorenzo Santini's Uka Uka Racing with Claudio Recchi at the helm. Whilst holding on to second place after the first race, moving about 9 knots hit a submerged rock damaging the keel. Uka Uka, although fifth was forced to retire from the second race of the day, yet plan to work through the night to repair the boat to be on the starting line tomorrow for the final day of racing.
