The Gold Cup Is On

5 December 2008

Today is day one of racing for the twenty-boat strong Melges 32 fleet at the Gold Cup Regatta being held in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., hosted by the Lauderdale Yacht Club. Teams representing the USA, UK, Italy and Canada are in attendance, each and every one looking ahead to an extraordinary day out on the water.

Most of the teams have spent the last two days getting the boats splashed and fine tuned for what is going to be one of the most spectacular events for the fleet this year. Despite a few last minute cancellations, the overall fleet is jam-packed with talent. View the full entry list and/or full crew list.

As many as four races are scheduled today with light air conditions for extra-added challenge. A nice easterly of 5-10 mph of breeze awaits this impressive collection of competitive Melges 32s.

Stay tuned to this site as full race reports, releases, photos, videos and interviews will be posted shortly after racing.

Also, be sure to check out the Official Melges 32 Class Association BLOG. On-the-water reports, mark roundings, and finishes will be posted LIVE from the course throughout the day! Coverage will begin down on the docks in just a couple of hours.
