MELGES 32 TUNE-UP REGATTA: SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3RD IS "TAKE A JUNIOR SAILING DAY"

16 November 2006

16 NOVEMBER 2006 • During the Melges 32 “Tune-Up” Regatta, junior sailors are encouraged to race! If you have a son, daughter or friend in High School, they are encouraged to race with you ALL weekend and are NOT counted in Class crew weight-limit.

The only caveat is that they must be a “rider” only. If you don’t plan to bring a Junior to come sail with you in Fort Lauderdale, the Lauderdale Yacht Club will provide a High School Racing sailor for Sunday’s racing. This is a RARE opportunity for Junior sailors to experience racing at a very high level. Some recent LYC junior stars include: Sarah Lihan, Laser Radial (2006 #1 female junior sailor in the US), Mac Agnese, Opti Sailor (2005 Melges 24 World Champion crewing for James Spithill). The LYC has a VERY strong junior development program because of programs like “Take a Junior Sailing”. Peter Commette (Laser World Champion) will be in charge of qualifying and assigning a sailor to each Melges 32. Sunday’s weather and sailor’s racing skill level will be closely scrutinized for everyone’s safety. The sailors will be brought to your boat at Bahia Mar with lunch and lifejacket in hand on Sunday morning.
