Congratulations To Chris Williford, Melges 32 'Take A Junior Sailing Day' Candidate Wins 2009 Opti North Americans
9 July 2009
The Melges 32 Class is a great supporter of seeing youth sailors do well. That concept holds steadfast and true as the fleet promotes a wildly successful 'Take A Junior Sailing Day' program at some of its greatest championships. An idea originally conceived by IM32CA Chairman Jeff Ecklund, this special opportunity all started a few years ago at the Lauderdale Yacht Club in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla, where recently crowned 2009 Opti North American Champion Chris Williford calls home.
Although Williford is one of America's many aspiring junior sailing, the Melges 32 can't help but imagine that his experiences on this great boat and within an awesome fleet has helped further inspire his ongoing sailing accomplishments. The International Melges 32 Class sends a great congratulations to Chris on a job well done!
As released by Sail Karma: The 2009 IODA North American Championship in the Dominican Republic just concluded with some of the best American results ever. American Chris Williford was the overall winner. Brian Higgins from Argentina was 2nd and Axel Sly, another member of Team USA was 3rd. LISOT sailors did a terrific job with Harry Koeppel 24th, Lily Katz 50th, Gary Prieto 54th, Holly Tullo 70th and Reinier Eenkema van Dijk 95th. Complete results can be seen at www.optinam2009.org/
