The Final Three Days : Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series
15 July 2009
There are only three days to play everything, and the naming of the Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series 2009 Champion.
After three eventful stages - Malcesine, Lerici and Scarlino, the Cagliari act will take place from July 17-19 and will be the final round of this intense challenge. Head-to-head for the win is Calvi Network’s Carlo Alberini (current overall leader) and defending champion Claudio Recchi on Team 93.
Only three points separate the two teams so the weekend’s call of action is no mistakes. The duel will deliver a high level of tension, speed, tactics and technique, above all - nerves of steel.
Recchi on the other hand has a team of high potential, not to mention is a class veteran. The beginning of the season was slow, but over time has he has climbed the leaderboard. Consistent performances with tactics from Jonathan McKee, this team shows no stopping.
Lining up for third, a heated battle between Francesco Martino on Pilot Italia, Mauro Mocchegiani on Rush Diletta and Luigi Amedeo Melegari on Matrix.
This is the last event in the Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series 2009. The next battle will take place at the Audi Melges 32 World Championship scheduled for Porto Cervo, Sardinia on September 20-27, hosted by Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.
Also competing this weekend and slated to appear in Porto Cervo for Worlds is Vincenzo Onorato on Mascalzone Latino, fleet newcomer Wolfgang Stolz on Opus One and from the USA, Jason Carroll on Argo.
