Melges 32 Class Rings Out The Year In Gold, Bright 2013 North American Racing Season

The forthcoming 2012 Melges 32 Gold Cup Regatta, hosted by the Lauderdale Yacht Club (LYC) will bring yet another very successful year of racing to a close for the International Melges 32 Class Association (IM32CA). With a satisfying fifteen boat turnout, teams from six different countries are set to compete in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on November 30-December 2.

On the heels of the class’ most successful and largest World Championship ever, the Gold Cup marks the start of a very exciting 2013 International racing calendar in North America, Europe and Australasia. Always well attended, it sets the standard for the entire season making way for an extremely competitive regatta few teams dare to miss.

Looking ahead, the Melges 32 Class is excited about making its standard appearance at Key West Race Week in mid-January, an event that thrives on beautiful weather and boasts a highly competitive entry list. The Early Entry Deadline for Key West is December 21, 2012 and Crew Declarations are due January 11, 2013. Steer south for the winter and enjoy five days of incredible racing. 

Brand new to 2013, the Class is proud to present the first ever Melges 32 Virgin Islands Sailing Series (VISS) consisting of three sanctioned and one non-sanctioned event in the stunning U.S. and British Virgin Islands. The VISS begins in Virgin Gorda, BVI February 21-24 with Event No. 1, the International Rolex Regatta (Event No. 2) on March 22-24, and culminates with Event No. 3 — The Caribbean Championship on Peter Island, BVI on April 26-28. Teams are also encouraged to race the BVI Spring Regatta on the island of Tortola on March 29-31. Major preparations are in full swing, with surely the end results being some serious fun in the Virgin Islands for the Melges 32!

Just as the VISS wraps up, the 2013 European Sailing Series ramps up. Although venues are still slated to be announced, dates are posted so do mark you calendars. Guaranteed these events will produce big fleet numbers as the IM32CA works its way toward another amazing World Championship. Once more, everyone should count on great parties, exceptional race management and planning as well as the best competition in the world of performance yacht racing. THIS IS THE TROPHY TO HAVE!

In June, the North American Fleet switches gears and heads to Michigan for the two-part Great Lakes Series with the Great Lakes Championship hosted by the Macatawa Bay Yacht Club on June 21-23 and the 2013 North American Championship hosted by the Little Traverse Yacht Club on August 2-4. The Notice of Race for both events will be online shortly.

Australiasia is growing and things heat up starting in early to late August. Hamilton Island Race Week, the East Coast Championship and NSW Titles are always amongst the very best in events. Keep an eye out on this fast and thrill-seeking sector of the Melges 32.
