Kilroy Takes Fleet Honors In Key West & The Prestigious Boat Of The Week Award

Congratulations to John Kilroy aboard Samba Pa Ti as he and his team of tactician Stu Bannatyne, Morgan Reeser, Sam Rogers, Shana Rosenfeld Phelan, Eric Dorman, Justin Smart and Alan Nakanishi are the 2010 Melges 32 Key West Champions! Not only did they take home fleet honors, they also walked away with the highly-coveted Boat of the Week award as well! “This is a tremendous honor and tribute to the class. This fleet is very competitive with a lot of outstanding teams and a lot of great sailors,” Kilroy said. “You really have to work hard to win in the Melges 32 class.”

Special thanks goes out to all the competitors who traveled from near and far for the week-long event. Thank you for making the Melges 32 the best in Key West!

Melges Rocks!
Another key moment for the fleet in Key West was the Melges Rocks party that has consistently been held for the last three years. Generously presented by Melges Performance Sailboats for Melges 32 and Melges 24 sailors, Melges Rocks presents the opportunity to celebrate Key West, the previous year’s accomplishments, as well as promote the upcoming racing schedule. In particular, congratulations to 2009 World and European Ranking Champions Lorenzo Bressani and owner Lorenzo Santini on Uka Uka Racing, North American Ranking Champion Alan Field and Carlo Alberini — 2009 Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series Champion! Thank you Melges! View The Photo Gallery

Joe Woods Leads 2010 Midwinter Championship Series Standings

A very excited Joe Woods climbed down from the podium a couple of weeks ago in Key West at Race Week giddy as a school boy with his second place trophy in the highly competitive Melges 32 fleet. "Second place again. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride," he said with a smile. It was the second year in a row that Joe settled for second overall. Ironically, he was also granted the same fate at the Gold Cup in December 2009, finishing second to Annapolis' Rod Jabin by less than a point.
