Joe Woods Wins 2010 Audi Melges 32 European Championship

After four days of incredible racing and high powered competition, Joe Woods aboard Red with Paul Goodison as tactician alongside crew members David Lenz, Shane Hughes, Paddy Bettesworth, Jamie Binmore, Chris Cooper and Mark Williams, is the very first Melges 32 European Champion! Six races in all were completed, despite the fierce mistral to reveal not only Woods as champion, but also Lerici champion Lanfranco Cirillo on Fantastica as runner-up and Luca Lalli on in third.

Thank You. The off-the-water festivities were nothing short of spectacular. A very special thanks to Roberto Pardini, owner of the Janas Melges 32, Yacht Club Cagliari and Melges Europe for making the European Championship the best ever!

Jackson’s Leenabarca Crowned East Coast Champion

During the cool, crisp month of May, the American Yacht Club in Rye, N.Y. hosted the 2010 East Coast Championship. Three days and nine races later, Alex Jackson on Leenabarca with Rob Greenhalgh as tactician, pulled ahead of the highly-competitive fleet to win out over twelve other teams. Also aboard as crew was Peter Greenhalgh, Steve Irish, Jesse Fielding, Chris Coulson, David Ramussen and Jeff Brantley. Practically a new fleet comer still, Phil Lotz on Arethusa came on strong to land second overall. Kip Meadows on roXanne finished a solid third.

Thank You. A very special thanks to everyone that traveled the distance to compete. Most especially, a big thank you to Thijs Hovers for throwing an extravagant Bliksem Party on the lawn of AYC. Food and drinks flowed in celebration of the event!

“If you’ve never raced Harbor Springs, here is your chance as it is a MUST sail venue, especially up against 20+ Melges 32s. I’ve had the pleasure of sailing all over the U.S., and if you ask me, my top three places would be easy — San Francisco, Miami and Harbor Springs. The water is crystal clear surrounded by sugar sand beaches, has a reliable breeze and is a very classy summertown to visit. There is cycling and golf to be enjoyed. I encourage everyone to Google Harbor Springs and see for yourselves the stunning photos of the bay and quaint town. This event happens at the peak of the summer. A legendary outdoor party on Friday night at Irish Marine is worth the trip alone. The best part though is the beautiful bay and great breezes. I promise, once you sail Harbor Springs, you’ll be back!”
