Melges 32 Worlds, La Pericolosa is the 2021 World Champion

Villasimius (CA), 4 September 2021 - Christian Schwoerer's La Pericolosa is the new Melges 32 World Champion: at the end of a day of light breeze, with two more races completed,  La Pericolosa put the seal on the World Title, missed last year, always in Villasimius, for a bunch of points in favor of Caipirinha.

So here is the second World Title for Schwoerer, already protagonist of a beautiful victory in Valencia in 2019. The success of Villasimius comes after a series of regattas literally dominated by the crew of La Pericolosa who, with partials always within the top-3, except the sixth place obtained today in the regatta with the lightest breeze of the whole series - the less privileged conditions of the team - maintained control of the ranking in all the days of the World Championship.

The Crew of Tavatuy, led by Pavel Kuznetsov, today attempted a comeback on La Pericolosa, managing to recover some precious points of gap: at the end of the series, Tavatuy is second, five points behind the winners.

Bronze medal for another German boat, Wilma by Fritz Homann.

“What a fantastic week, here in Villasimius: from a sailing point of view, we couldn't ask for more. We had everything: rough sea, flat sea, strong wind and today even a light breeze. The crew was fantastic in all conditions, and returning to win the world title after two years is a fantastic emotion. Thank you all for the emotions you gave me” commented Schwoerer at the end of prize giving.

In the Corinthian division, reserved for non-professional sailors, the victory went to Maximilian Stein's Homanit, who defends the World Title for the second year in a row: "We are proud to be able to keep the World Title at home, winning again in Villasimius is for us a reason of great pride. The variable conditions of this week made us have fun, thanks also to a challenging and very competitive fleet. See you next year!" Stein commented.

Corinthian silver medal for the young German crew of Heat, third place for Startelekom.

In conjunction with the World Championship awards ceremony, the winners of the Melges World League seasonal circuit, which came to an end today after stopping off in Cala Galera, Malcesine and Villasimius, were also awarded.

Overall success went to the Russian entry Tavatuy, followed by Wilma and the Hungarian Farfallina. In the Corinthian division, victory for Heat, followed by Homanit and Startelekom.

At the end of the 2021 Melges 32 season, Melges Europe is preparing for the last event of the Melges 20 circuit, the European Championship scheduled at the end of September in Puntaldia.
