Melges 32 Worlds, La Pericolosa takes control  on the first day

Villasimius (Italy), 1 September 2021 - After an intense weekend that involved the Melges 20 and Melges 32 fleets in the Sardinia Rally, fourth annual stage of the Melges World League circuit, the main event of the Melges 32 season got underway today: the World Championship started in Villasimius thanks to the joint organization of Melges Europe,  Marina of Villasimius and Italian Naval League - Villasimius.

Three races completed, all with a consistent breeze coming from the land, excellently conducted by the Race Committee chaired by the Spanish Maria Torrijo, who has just returned from Tokyo Olympic Games.

The leader, after the first day, is Christian Schowerer's La Pericolosa: the already world champions at Valencia 2019, with 1-2-2 partial scores, immediately take control of the operations, leaving behind the Russian entry Tavatuy by Pavel Kuznetsov, 5 points late, and Wilma by Fritz Homann, winner of the last race of the day.

The battle is also on in the Corinthian fleet, where young German owners Max Augustin and Maximilian Stein are respectively first and second with Heat and Homanit, tied at 14 points each. Third place for the Polish Startelekom of Waldemar Salata.

Races will resume tomorrow at 11.00, on a day that promises to be challenging for the crews, given the forecast of very strong wind, with gusts well over 20 knots.
